What is NLP?
NLP or Neurolinguistic Programming was created by John Grinder and Richard Bandler as a means of replicating human excellence. NLP is used to understand how a person organises their thinking, language and behaviour to produce the results they do. It is used to uncover and understand why a person is limiting themselves.
When Bandler and Grinder modelled successful thinkers and world class achievers such as Milton Erickson, Fritz Perls and Virginia Satir, they looked into the structure of their thinking not the content. Grinder and Bandler developed a mental model of the therapists behaviours, now used to produce the same results, by using techniques for quickly and effectively changing thoughts, beliefs and therefore behaviours.
NLP has influenced the work of people like Anthony Robbins and Paul McKenna. NLP also features in drama series such as Lie to Me and the Mentalist.
When we think, we do so with pictures, feelings and words.
Neuro – NLP is a model of the method used by high achievers in their chosen profession. The way we perceive, filter and store the information we receive through our senses produces our own mental maps.
Our first mental map is made up by using our own filter system to take in millions of bits of information, made up of images, tastes, smells, sounds, tactile awareness, internal feelings and this is our first access.
Linguistic – Language is then assigned to the information we have received to form our second mental map. In this way the information received from the outside world through our senses gives each one of us personal meaning.
Programming – The resulting behaviour of our filtering process and the succeeding linguistic map.
An NLP practitioner uses NLP methods which have a track record of employing fast effective change work with individuals, companies and groups. NLP is used in:
- Personal Development
- Change work
- Sales & Marketing
- Team Building
What stops us from achieving the same as other great achievers?
In the current technological world where we are bombarded with millions of bits of information as well e-mails, tweets, texts and many more, the mind cannot cope as well as it used to, and experiences stress. A large majority of the cases seen by doctors are related to stress and its resulting illnesses. Most people are unaware that the resources they need to deal with their issues and to succeed, lie within us.
NLP and hypnosis can help unleash the power within each of us to fulfill our potential and perform to the best of our ability. By helping our minds to think more clearly and to remember what is important in this fast paced world, we can experience more joy and happiness.
